(Scranton, PA) – Today, John Chrin’s campaign for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district received some welcome news as Inside Elections announced a rating change in the race from Likely Democratic to Lean Democratic.
This announced ratings change follows a productive two weeks for John having both been announced as a National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Young Gun and a recent endorsement by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
“I stand for policies that will bring prosperity to Northeast Pennsylvanians and to our country. These include insuring that the tax cuts are not overturned, excessive regulations go away, and there are opportunities for new job creation. My opponent, Matthew Cartwright, voted against the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and supports its repeal. Hardworking families all across the 8th district are benefiting from these tax cuts and cannot afford Matthew Cartwright’s tax hikes.” said Chrin.
“As a 10th generation Pennsylvanian, I grew up in a working class family with roots in both the state’s coal mining and steel working industries. Small business entrepreneurship also runs in my family with several family members operating current small businesses in the state.
Through my family’s hard work and determination over many generations we have been able to live the American dream. Now, I want to use my business background to grow opportunities for Northeast Pennsylvanians.
Many of the hundreds of local business owners I have met on the campaign trail have the same concern I have, that hiking taxes on employers and their employees is a first class ticket to recession and layoffs.
Prosperity also means lowering the cost of healthcare, maintaining the benefits promised to our seniors, and addressing our immigration challenges once and for all. Our nation and region can benefit from the positives that come from legal immigration. That said, sanctuary cities, which Matthew Cartwright has a long history of supporting, cannot be part of that solution. ”
The increased attention on the race indicates how competitive the race will be this fall. It also signals the vulnerability of Matt Cartwright who routinely has voted against the interests of his constituents for the benefit of special interests.
John Chrin is an outsider and successful business leader with over twenty years of experience in the financial services sector. He has created thousands of jobs and will use this vast experience for the benefit of Northeast Pennsylvania.

Inside Elections gives nonpartisan analysis of campaigns. Its editor and publisher Nathan Gonzalez sat down with John on June 12th to discuss the race. The significance of the rating change is that it continues to show the vulnerability of Matt Cartwright running against John Chrin, a strong candidate in a newly drawn congressional district where Republicans strongly performed in 2016.
