John Chrin Statement on Cartwright Vote Against Medical Device Tax Repeal

(Scranton, PA) – Last night, Matthew Cartwright voted against repealing the Obamacare medical device tax. This tax passes higher costs onto medical services which in turn are passed onto patients. You can see the vote here. The Tax Foundation found this tax was responsible for the loss of approximately 21,800 jobs from 2013 to 2015.

“My opponent continues to support unaffordable healthcare policies. I support a healthcare system that puts patients first, allows small businesses to pool together to purchase plans, allows for the purchase of health insurance across state lines, and encourages competition. I also support healthcare coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions.” said Chrin.

“My opponent, Matthew Cartwright, is supportive of a single-payer, government-run healthcare system. He supports legislation that would establish a public option or ‘Medicare for All’, hurting the quality of care for seniors who are currently enrolled and have paid into the program all their lives.

If implemented, this healthcare model would bankrupt our country. An Urban Institute study shows single payer would cost 32 trillion over ten years. As the Progressive Caucus whip, Cartwright votes the way Nancy Pelosi tells him to vote – 96 percent of the time. He consistently votes against the interests of his constituents to further ingratiate himself with Pelosi and the liberal leadership in Washington.”
